Detox 2 (Lite)

Hey Folks!

We are back in business! This time it will not be as intense as the last time. The main purpose is to keep that Flu away. What that means is that on the weekends we are allowed a glass or two of red wine. Maybe keep enough protein coming after the exercise, that means not having to keep the daily calorie intake under 1000 like last time :) 1200 - 1500 calories should be alright. The duration will be 2 - 3 weeks.

We will begin with the following:

1) No Dairy

2) Very limited amount of bread (Absolutely no bagels)

3) Lots of fiber

4) Lots of fruits and vegetables

5) Green Tea and Herbal Tea is OK

5) No coffee, No Beer, No Soda, No Oil

6) No artificial foods or chemicals. Everything has to be natural.

What that means for this Monday, tomorrow, we have
  • Oatmeal + Fruit for Breakfast
  • Fruits + Veggies for Lunch
  • Nuts for snacks
  • Chicken/Fish sandwich with veggies for Dinner
  • More Fruit for Snacks
Peace :)

Water Fast - Day 3

Wow! What an amazing experience.

I weighed myself on the night of Day 3 and listen to this: Since the detox started I've lost 19 pounds! I am 161 at this point! Amazing. And I've got 14 more hours of the water fast to go during which time I might lose one more pound.

The truth is that even though we've been eating really healthy food for three weeks, on the first and second day of the water fast I was getting flashes of tasty and unhealthy restaurant food. I was thinking of the best malaysian/thai/chinese food to mcdonalds to indian food. I read online that the urges and cravings for food that we get are from a set of brain cells that monitor the blood sugar level. So, it's not really the body asking for food for it's functioning. I also found that after the second half of the third I completly stopped thinking of food. I read that when the body starts breaking down the stored body fat, the blood sugar level goes up again and brain cells are fooled into thinking there's a food supply again.

My rate of metabolism had gone down considerably during the first couple of days. I've been laying low mostly over the weekend when I could. But, I've also been up and about. I read that it's good to be inward focussed during the fast and that's what I've tried to do. All in all, I would totally recommend a 3-4 day water fast after a period of detox diet. It's a great experience.

Peace :)

Week 4

Folks,

Week 4 has been by far the most amazing! Mon through Thursday, we had a diet similar to Week 3. That means, no dairy, no alcohol, no coffee, no bread, just veggies and fruits, organic whenever possible, oven roasted chicken and veggies and brown rice and lentils.

BUT, Fri through Monday we did a water fast. Yes only water :)

Week 3

Guys,

Week 3 will be a little bit more intense than Week 2 and 1. Tue - Fri the diet will be similar to Week 1 except we can't have any bread or yogurt. Oatmeal for breakfast, fruits and celery for lunch. We can have Herbal tea any time. For dinner, we can still have a piece of chicken baked in chicken broth with greens and veggies or some salmon, no spices in either except turmeric which is said to be really good for memory.

Over the weekend, we'll do a juice fast. That's right, only juice over the weekend! Mix lime juice, honey, black pepper and water and drink about 8 - 10 litres every day. Make sure the concentration is not too strong.

Peace

Apple Cleanse - Day 3

That was challenging. Kyle, I know what you mean when you said the apples started "working"..

But, it was highly cathartic, literally. The next morning, I felt great and it was the best bowl of organic oatmeal and avocado I had ever had. I met some people the day after the apple fast was over and I was told that I was shining.. the detox must be showing.

Over the weekend, I continued the diet of week 1. Oatmeal for breakfast, healthy sandwiches for lunch from subway or quiznos with no cheese, dressing or anything spicy. The meat should be white and not have been fried in oil. I always get oven roasted chicken breast sandwich on whole grain wheat bread from subway with the veggies, straight up, no jalapenos or pickles! In quiznos, I get the kahuna sandwich with only veggies and guaccamole.

The third week's diet will be similar to week 1 diet except there will be no bread and no yogurt! I will post more about week 3 in the coming hours, the weekend will be interesting.

Peace :)

Week 2

Alright! The plan for Week 2.

We are gonna go on an apple fast. What does it involve? Apples, yes, apples that's it. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, anytime you are hungry get an apple, any type of an apple but only an apple. Nothing else, except water. Drink a LOT of water. We'll do it for three days. Dom and I are doing it Wed, Thu and Fri. Kyle started on Tue because that suits his schedule better. Tina, you should join me and Dom tomorrow! After the apple fast we'll go back to week 1 diet for the weekend.

Tomorrow, I'll bring a dozen organic red apples.

What are the benefits of doing an apple fast?

"This type of cleansing will regulate your digestive system and allow your liver to function more efficiently in burning calories and releasing fat from your cells.
It will also shrink your stomach and get rid of unwanted sugar cravings."

From http://bodyatwork.tripod.com/splan/id26.html

"This is a 3 day long fast that cleanses away all the toxins dumped in the internal system including kidneys, colon, intestines and the gall bladder. The pectin of the apples leeches way all the toxins and refreshes your internal system."

From http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Apple-Cleansing-Diet---Does-Apple-Cleansing-Work?&id=2279384

"The apples contain pectin, which leeches toxins from the blood stream and intestines. It will also leech anything with food value, so don't eat anything else, including vitamins (which serve only to assist in the absorption and digestion of other foods, and are useless by themselves). Drink only distilled water, for the same reason. It's called a fast because, by eating only apples, the body is fooled into a fasting mode, where it starts dumping toxins from the liver, kidneys, and other internal organs, into the bloodstream, where they can be leeched by the pectin. Nonetheless, be prepared to feel grouchy on the 2nd day, due to the release of all the toxins into your system. Eat a minimum of 8-10 apples a day."

So Far So Great! -Kaushik

Hi Gang

Thought I'd post on the blog while waiting for my procedure to execute. Week 1 has been excellent for me. One of my goals at the beginning of the program was to go from normal to super lean. I've lost 4 pounds so far in just one week! At this rate in four weeks, I might lose about 15 pounds which would be tremendous. I am also meeting my therapist next week to restart my ACL rehab. It's time for a lean and fit summer!!

During the week, I've had significantly more energy. I've been putting 12 hour days at work without feeling a drain at all. In fact, after a long day I've been able to go home and cook and run more errands. Never before heard of. So, that's great.
On the weekend, I was tired because I had to wake up early on both days after having late nights. On Fri night I was at a party where they had all this tempting food laid out. They had 5-6 types of cheese, lots of wine, beer, pizza, samosas, chipts, I touched none of it. I just had water :) I slept well Monday night and had a great lunch today, lots of fruits and veggies and yogurt and now I feel great again.

Looks like Week 2 is gonna be great.

Cheers!

Plan for Monday

Guys,

Can each person pick one number and bring those items?

1) Celery, carrots and blueberries

2) Yogurt, honey and nuts

3) Organic apples (6)

4) Oranges

I can bring in yogurt, honey and nuts if that's OK with everybody. This is for lunch and snacks. For breakfast, we can boiled oats and bananas. I was thinking we could either make this at home for ourselves or these two items are also available downstairs.

Let me know how you feel about this.

K

Week 1

I feel like we should take a sensible approach and not try to go from 0 to 60 in 2 secs. Cutting down on some things is a good idea. Let's take a break from:

1) Alcohol. Shouldn't be a big deal unless you are in AA.

2) Coffee. This can be tough. Switch to Herbal Tea instead. If Herbal Tea doesn't work at all, Green Tea is OK for Week 1. Please use organic sugar in small quantities instead of artificial sweeteners.

3) Dairy. No milk, ice cream, cheese or butter.

That means it's OK to have Bread in Week 1 in moderate quantities. It's also OK to have meat but, eating white meat is better than eating red meat. Salmon, chicken and sea food should be great. We need to make sure we consume high amounts of fiber on a daily basis. We will also be eating multiple times (5-6) a day in small quantities and drinking a LOT of water.

The Why

Folks,

What are we going to get out of the detox program?

This is a compact of list of benefits I compiled from the web.

1) Increased Energy, Mental Clarity and better overall health.

2) Improved Immune Functions and as a result, disease and infection prevention.

3) A Lean trim body

What is this going to involve?

Reorienting our diet to foods that are more natural. This means reforming our lifestyle to undo addictions to sugar, caffeine, salt, high glycemic carbs, alcohol, drugs and tobacco.

Do I have to stop having fun?

No. What gave you that idea! It's about finding a way to have fun without abusing your body.

How long is this going to take?

We are doing a complete detox here. This program is about 4-6 weeks long. After the program is done, alcohol consumption can be resumed but it has to carefully planned.

Peace :)

Preamble

Hey folks

Welcome to our Detox Blog!

We have gotten around to taking the first step to that cleansing routine. It's the perfect time to do the detox. What a great note to start this summer!

At this stage we are going to put together all the information that we need in this blog. We are going to consolidate a bunch of different detox programs (liver, kidney and colon). And we'll also add some diets and exercises for other things like great skin, vision etc. We can also include meditation and yoga for a mind/body roundup.

Please share your opinions freely, that's what this blog is for. People on the team now:

1) Dom
2) Jib
3) Tina
4) Kyle
5) Kaushik

Our goal right now is to start on the on 5/11. This is the perfect time to stop binging on those beers, burritos and pizzas (you Kaushik!). Eat a lot of fiber, if you must drink this week, try to keep it to red wine. We'll layout a specific diet soon.

Peace :)
